Job Summary
The Cloud Engineer is responsible for leading and supporting the design and implementation of core cloud infrastructure components. Utilizes advanced technical skills to coordinate design, enhancement, and deployment efforts, and provide insight and recommendations for operating enterprise cloud infrastructure solutions. Works closely with cloud application and infrastructure support teams, project managers, network and system engineers, and other technology support teams. Documents critical design and configuration details required to support the delivery of enterprise cloud services.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Deploy, monitor, and optimize cloud infrastructure technology including endpoint management solutions, cloud storage solutions and system virtualization in cloud infrastructure.
- Deliver end-to-end enterprise infrastructure management solutions in a cloud environment, including system capacity and performance monitoring and optimization.
- Support the full lifecycle of enterprise-wide Azure and other owned Cloud Infrastructure.
- Improve infrastructure operations by driving the adoption of cloud infrastructure management tools throughout the team including the use of automation for system deployment and system scaling.
- Design and execute on-premises to cloud migration plans.
- Support the enterprise infrastructure team by participating in incident and problem resolution.
- Serve as a consultant to the business and IT teams to determine the most appropriate cloud solution required for business projects as a subject matter expert in the areas of technology design and support. This role requires the ability to help teammates and demonstrate innovative thinking in both the design and execution phases of technology infrastructure.
- Provide systems and application support to users who have varying degrees of knowledge with computer systems by communicating effectively and applying your experience.
- Leverage teammates, knowledge bases, technology forums, and vendor support to perform root cause analysis and implement controls to prevent outages.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, end user documentation, and system administration documentation using standard desktop software tools.
- Train others (primarily within the technology area) for the purpose of ensuring their ability to use new and/or existing infrastructure systems and applications throughout the enterprise.
- Participate in an on-call rotation for escalated matters.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree or seven years of related experience is commensurate to the education required.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in cloud systems and network engineering roles preferred.
- Extensive experience with Azure cloud, Windows server, VMware, and SAN platforms including deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Extensive experience with cloud and traditional networks including firewalls, routers, switches, and wireless infrastructure.
- Expertise monitoring, troubleshooting, and supporting complex cloud and on-prem infrastructure systems and network environments.
- Experience with a wide variety of IT systems, cloud, and networking as they relate to the implementation and deployment of new sites.
- Experience with other relevant infrastructure equipment, such as UPS devices, telephony platforms, fiber media converters, etc.
- Extensive experience with Azure Active Directory Services and Identity Management Solutions preferred.
- Deep experience with network appliances (e.g., Palo Alto, Cisco Meraki, etc.) preferred.
LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION
- Microsoft certifications and/or other relevant network and systems certification(s) a plus.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Proficiency with Microsoft AD Domain, DNS (internal/external), Group Policy, DFS.
- Proficiency in designing and supporting Azure cloud and on-prem servers and services including Azure subscriptions and infrastructure.
- Supporting network appliances and switches, WANs, SD-WANs, LANs, VLANs, etc.
- Extensive experience with Windows server, VMware, and SAN platforms including deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Extensive experience utilizing PowerShell and/or other scripting tools to deploy and support infrastructure.
- Supporting infrastructure requirements and deployments for new buildouts and acquisitions.
- Experience of ITIL foundation and principles preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
- Independent judgement and decision-making abilities.
- Demonstrable experience with detailed documentation and formal policies and procedures.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
Working conditions
This job operates in a remote location from your home location. This role requires a dedicated, quiet workspace with the ability to adhere to HIPPA and other privacy policies. A reliable and high-speed Wi-Fi connection or home internet is required to perform the essential functions of this role.
