Job Summary

 

This Medical Economics Data Analyst Intern will support the Medical Economics team to design and develop reports and analyze health care utilization, operational and financial data to measure and drive health care delivery and business outcomes through close collaboration with Clinical, Pharmacy, Operations, and Executive leadership.

 

The Medical Economics Data Analyst Intern will review, interpret, and analyze clinical and operational data from the Electronic Health Record (eClinicalWorks), pharmacy point of sale system (RX30), health information exchanges (HIE), population health management systems, and health plan payer data and deliver reports and analytics that respond to critical business needs.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Analyze and regularly report upon clinical and operational care model data from EHR (eClinicalWorks), pharmacy point of sale system (RX30), health information exchanges (HIE), population health management systems, medical and pharmacy claims provided by health plan payers, and other internal and third-party data streams as necessary.
  • Work collaboratively with leadership and stakeholders across the Integrated Clinical Team, Pharmacy, Finance, Medical Center Operations, Business Development, and Executive leadership to define, create, document and implement ad-hoc reports/analytics that support the AbsoluteCare clinical care model evolution and health plan partnerships.
  • Be able to design reports/analytics with key performance metrics, actionability, clinicians, and members in mind; utilize data to not only identify potential impact, but also test and monitor performance of clinical metrics and members’ outcomes
  • Automate manual reporting and develop novel reporting through the use of the Microsoft BI stack and other reporting tools.
  • Communicate analyses, results, and reports in a simple and clear fashion to all levels and functional areas of the organization.
  • Conduct analyses using tools such as SQL, Excel, Power BI, and Python
  • Conduct extensive data mining and analyses to identify trends, opportunities, and best practices.
  • Organize, clarify, and translate business processes into reporting requirements from a diverse set of end users (e.g. executives, clinicians),
  • Interpret medical data fields to understand the population’s compliance with health care industry quality standards (e.g., HEDIS, NCQA).
  • Promote a culture of high-quality reporting and analytics by acting as a peer reviewer for team members.
  • Relate disparate data sets to extract actionable insights
  • Support business needs through the development of ad-hoc and standardized reports as requested by the executive leadership team, as well as internal and external customers.
  • Troubleshoot and align the reporting needs of end users to available data sets.
  • Maintain the security and privacy of all information that is owned by AbsoluteCare or maintained on behalf of the company’s patients, employees, and business partners.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Presently enrolled and in good standing with a graduate or undergraduate degree in business, information technology, computer science/data science/data analytics, statistics, mathematics, health sciences, or related field or equivalent work experience required.
  • Sustained excellence in academic performance
  • Demonstrated understanding of health care data interpretation, analysis, and reporting strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with healthcare terminology, health plan organizations, and government sponsored programs strongly preferred.
  • Academic or equivalent exposure to/experience with the Microsoft BI stack, including SSMS, SSRS, SSIS, and Power BI, Power Query, or other Business Intelligence Tools strongly preferred
  • Academic or equivalent advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel required.
  • Academic or equivalent exposure to relational databases (SQL server), querying, data warehouses, and decision support tools required.
  • Academic or equivalent exposure to Python preferred, experience with machine learning and artificial intelligence libraries strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with limited direction and/or guidance.
  • Capable of balancing numerous and competing priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills with experience collaborating with executives strongly preferred.
  • Insatiable curiosity.
  • Highly organized with strong documentation skills.
  • Passion for data and the act of transforming data to actionable insights.
  • Unafraid to ask questions or for help when necessary.

This job operates in a professional office environment.  This role routinely uses general office equipment.
